The Blue Springs Department of Bands offers two class options for students to create a deeper understanding of music past performance on their instrument.

Music Appreciation provides a study different types of musical styles and performances.  It focuses on performances, composers, and musical works, and the genres that have have defined different periods in history.  Students are exposed to different types of music that brings a deeper appreciation and understanding.

Music Theory gives students the opportunity to learn more about the science of music making.  Students will learn about chord structures and progressions, scales, and rhythm.  Through aural training activities students learn how to internally hear printed music and apply techniques for phrasing and dynamics to improve the overall musical performance.
